Our premium count of organic cotton is hand picked by Fairtrade cotton farmers in Mali Africa. Organic means that our cotton is grown naturally without the use of harmful pesticides in an environmentally friendly process. We believe in Organic as not only does is good for the farmers, its good for the environment and its natural properties make it good for our skin. A few facts about Organic cotton which helped us to understand the concept....... Cotton is the most pesticide dependant crop in the world. It accounts for 25% of the world's pesticides. According to statistics thousands of cotton farmers in developing countries are killed each year from pesticide poisoning. Chemical pesticides are also overused and put the land and environment out of balance. Maybe one thousandth of insecticides used actually prevent insect infestations. The rest goes to the leaves, into the soil, into the water, into all forms of wildlife, into ourselves. Sharkah Chakra supports organic agriculture where possible because it uses natural pesticides found in nature that are ecologically, economically and socially sustainable. It means that we are helping to prevent both pollution and overproduction and provides a better livelihood for all our cotton farmers and a more sustainable balanced future.
